Vacation Rentals Near the San Antonio River Walk: What to Know Before You Book
The River Walk is the heart of San Antonio tourism, but the best rentals are not always on it. Which neighborhoods put you closest without the price spike.

The San Antonio River Walk draws more visitors than any other attraction in Texas. It is 15 miles of waterfront walkway, restaurant patios, event venues, and evening lights through the heart of the city. But the vacation rentals that sit directly on or next to the River Walk are rare, and typically priced to reflect that rarity.
The better question for most travelers is not "which rental is on the River Walk?" but "which rental puts me close enough that I can walk or take a short Uber, without paying the downtown premium for space I do not need?"
The neighborhoods within striking distance
The River Walk runs through several distinct sections. The most-visited portion, from the Alamo to King William, sits in the downtown core and Southtown. Rentals in the surrounding neighborhoods, including Riverside, Lavaca, and the near-east side, typically sit five to fifteen minutes by car and sometimes less by bicycle or rideshare.
Halliday is in the Riverside neighborhood, minutes from downtown. It is a renovated farmhouse with a fenced yard, fire pit, and string lights outside, which gives it something the hotels and condos directly on the River Walk do not: outdoor space to gather after a long day of walking. It sleeps eight, making it an economical choice for groups who would otherwise need two or three hotel rooms.
The Harding Place sits near Downtown and the River Walk in a historic Craftsman-style building. Two king beds, a kids' playroom, and a clawfoot tub make it practical for family trips that center on River Walk time without being priced at a River Walk hotel rate.
What "near the River Walk" actually means in terms of travel time
San Antonio's downtown is not particularly large. The distance between a rental one mile from the River Walk and a hotel directly on it translates to about a four-minute rideshare or a 15 to 20 minute walk. For the difference in nightly rate, that commute is almost always worth it.
If your itinerary includes a late night on the River Walk, factor in the cost of a rideshare back to your rental. Two round trips per day for four days at $10 to $15 each way adds $80 to $120 to your stay total. Compared to a hotel premium of $40 to $80 per night for the same proximity, you still come out ahead.
Parking and the River Walk
If you are driving to the River Walk each day, parking in a garage near the center costs $15 to $25 per day. A vacation rental with free off-street parking, like The Harding Place and Halliday, saves that cost on top of the nightly rate difference.
Planning a River Walk evening from a rental
The River Walk's best restaurants and evening atmosphere are at their peak on Thursday through Saturday. If you are planning a proper River Walk dinner, evening cocktails along the water, or a boat tour, those are easy to plan from any rental within a reasonable ride. Staying close enough to walk home afterward is the main variable worth paying for.
