Short-Term Rental Amenities That Actually Make a Difference to Guests
Not all vacation rental amenities are equal. The features that consistently improve guest experience and drive repeat bookings, and the ones that do not.

Short-term rental listings are full of amenity lists. Smart TV. Coffee maker. High-speed Wi-Fi. These features are now so standard that their absence would be noteworthy, but their presence no longer differentiates a property. The amenities that actually move the needle on guest experience are more specific, and often the ones that do not appear first in a listing.
Amenities that consistently matter
In-unit laundry
For stays over four days, an in-unit washer and dryer is the amenity that guests reference most often in reviews when it is present, and complain about most when it is absent. A shared laundry facility or a laundromat trip breaks the self-contained nature of a rental stay in a way that guests feel immediately. All Hosted Havens properties designed for extended stays include in-unit laundry.
A kitchen that is actually functional
There is a significant difference between "fully equipped kitchen" and a kitchen that is actually equipped for cooking real meals. The markers of a functional rental kitchen: at least four burners, a properly sized oven, a full-size refrigerator, a coffee setup with a proper grinder or good beans, and enough quality cookware that you are not substituting a skillet with a sauce pot. Grass Hollow lists specific equipment: an induction stove, air fryer, crockpot, and griddle. That level of specificity is a reliable signal that the kitchen actually works for guests who cook.
Blackout curtains in every bedroom
Sleep quality in an unfamiliar home is already compromised. Thin curtains that let street light in at 6 AM across time zones is a recurring negative in vacation rental reviews. Blackout curtains are inexpensive but rarely prioritized. When they are present in every bedroom, guests notice.
Enough towels and linens for the full stay
A rental stocked with exactly two towels per guest for a five-day stay creates a logistics problem that guests should not have to manage. A proper linen inventory means guests do not run out or need to wash towels mid-stay as a necessity rather than a preference.
Reliable keyless entry
Physical keys get lost, locked inside, and returned incorrectly. Keyless entry with rolling guest codes eliminates all three problems. For late arrivals, early departures, and guests who want to come and go on their own schedule, a reliable keyless system removes the single most common point of friction in a vacation rental check-in.
Amenities that are mostly marketing
Hot tubs are listed prominently but used by a fraction of guests. Pool tables in listings are common but rarely the deciding factor. "Luxury" bed linens with thread count claims are verifiable only in person. These features are not neutral, but they are rarely the reason a booking happens or a guest returns.
The properties in the Hosted Havens portfolio are stocked with the amenities that hold up over a real stay, not just a listing photo. Browse all San Antonio vacation rentals and read the amenity details in each property description before booking.
